Adoption of consumer and social robotics is constrained less by engineering than by human behaviour. This panel examines the design principles, and behavioural science research informing how robots are built to be perceived as trustworthy and welcome in domestic and social environments. The discussion will address what drives acceptance versus aversion, and how those factors are (and are not) engineerable.
