Humanoid robots represent a labor-market opportunity on the scale of automotive and smartphones combined — matching physical capability to the roles that need it most. This talk makes the engineering case for the humanoid form — legs for dynamic stability, an upright torso for centralized sensing, and bimanual arms for full-workspace manipulation — paired with an AI stack spanning real-time control, learned skills, and natural-language tasking. Drawing on Agility Robotics' deployment of Digit, the first commercially operating humanoid robot, the talk addresses the field's central blocker: safety around people. It closes with a roadmap for expanding humanoid deployment from constrained industrial settings toward broader, more dexterous roles.
