Dogus Cubuk is co-founder and co-CEO of Periodic Labs, building LLM agents for physical sciences, with physical experiments in the loop. Previously, he founded the materials science team at Google Brain and led the chemistry and materials science team at DeepMind. Outside of physics, he worked on data augmentation, semi-supervised learning, and model scaling. Examples include RandAugment and AutoAugment, which had applications in classification, object detection, and point clouds at Waymo and Google Cloud; ReMixMatch and FixMatch, which improved semi-supervised learning baselines; and power-laws as observed in predictions under distribution shifts and in model scaling. During his PhD, Dogus used machine learning and simulations to study supercooled liquids, glasses, and quantum materials.
