Matt Hicks is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source solutions. Since becoming CEO in 2022, he has led Red Hat through a period of strong financial performance and strategic innovation—strengthening the company’s leadership in hybrid cloud and expanding its role in enterprise AI. With 25 years of experience in enterprise technology and 19 years at Red Hat, Matt has been instrumental in the company’s evolution from a Linux vendor to a multi-billion-dollar leader in open source infrastructure. Before becoming CEO, he served as Executive Vice President of Products and Technologies, overseeing product strategy, engineering, and support across the entire portfolio. An early advocate for containers and cloud-native platforms, Matt was a founding engineer on the OpenShift team and helped establish it as one of the most widely adopted Kubernetes platforms in the world. Under his leadership, Red Hat has deepened its investment in AI—launching OpenShift AI and Red Hat Inference Server to provide scalable, enterprise-ready platforms for model development and deployment. He also led the strategic acquisition of NeuralMagic, cementing Red Hat’s leadership position in the critical vLLM project at the center of high-performance AI inference for open source. Matt began his career in engineering roles at IBM and in startups, giving him a broad foundation in innovation and customer-focused delivery. Today, he is focused on driving open technologies that help organizations thrive in an era defined by hybrid cloud and AI.
